Job Description:

The Program Director of the Anesthesiology Residency Program is responsible for the leadership, organization, operation, and general administration of the Anesthesiology Residency Program sponsored by TriHealth. The Program Director establishes the strategic direction of the program and is responsible for the standards, quality and reputation of the program. The Program Director is expected to integrate the Anesthesiology Residency Program with physician practices and hospital clinical services in a manner that enhances value and quality and promotes an optimal environment for professional practice and medical education.The duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Organize and direct the Anesthesiology Residency Program at TriHealth, including the organization of rotations and other educational activities at all clinical sites that participate in the program. This includes ensuring the quality of didactic and clinical education in all sites that participate in the program.
  • Dedicate no less than 50% (at least 20 hours per week) of total professional effort to the administrative and educational activities of the Anesthesiology educational program.
  • Be available and accessible to residents at the primary teaching site(s).
  • Oversee development of an effective resident advising program.
  • Supervise any Anesthesiology subspecialty training programs sponsored by the institution and linked to the core program to ensure compliance with the ACGME accreditation standards.
  • Hold supervisory authority over all educational tracks in the Anesthesiology Residency Program.
  • Ensure that the program does not place excessive reliance on residents for service as opposed to education.
  • Maintain active clinical practice in Anesthesiology.
  • Recruit and select candidates for the residency program through the National Residency Matching Program.
  • Provide accurate statistical and narrative information in accordance with the requirements of the ACGME and the ACGME's Review Committee for Anesthesiology.
  • Submit reports on program, faculty, and fellow performance to the Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC) as requested by the Chair of the GMEC.
  • Ensure the implementation of policies and procedures consistent with the institutional and program requirements, including but not limited to policies for resident duty hours and the working environment, moonlighting, grievance procedures, and due process, as established by the GMEC, and in compliance with the ACGME Institutional Requirements.
  • Maintain current knowledge of the accreditation and operational requirements of the residency program, including monitoring current trends and anticipating changes.
  • Prepare and send proposals to ACGME for approval of innovative educational approaches.
  • Select qualified Anesthesiologists and other specialists to serve on the program faculty.
  • Approve a local director at each participating site to be accountable for resident education. Organize the faculty to deliver a consistently high-quality education program.
  • Develop and implement programs to enhance the knowledge, clinical expertise, and teaching skills of the faculty.
  • Assure that faculty meet research and scholarly activity requirements of the program.
  • Prepare and implement the Anesthesiology Residency curriculum to provide a high-quality educational program and meet the requirements of the ACGME and the ABOS.
  • Establish the clinical assignments and schedules of the residents to achieve the educational objectives of the program.
  • Collaborate with the faculty to evaluate resident performance in relation to the educational objectives of the program.
  • Make decisions, with faculty input, to promote residents to the next level of training in the program.
  • Ensure that residents are assigned clinical responsibilities appropriate for their level of training and level of knowledge and skill.
  • Participate in the Graduate Medical Education Committee, and other hospital committees as requested by the DIO.
  • Personally, demonstrate scholarly activity as evidenced by activities such as peer-reviewed funding, publication of original research in a peer-reviewed journal, and participation in clinical discussions.Qualifications
  • Possess a Medical Degree or Doctorate of Osteopathy.
  • Have a thorough working knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements for graduate medical education and research.
  • Have experience with financial and budgetary responsibilities.
  • 5-7 years of experience in a related field.
  • Possess the required specialty expertise, as well as documented educational and administrative abilities.
  • Be certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology or hold credentials deemed equivalent.
  • Demonstrate clinical competence as a practicing physician.
  • Have faculty experience, leadership, organizational, and administrative qualifications.
  • At minimum have 3 years of education and/or administrative experience in Graduate Medical Education.
  • Must be appointed in good standing to the Bethesda North and/or Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Staff.
  • Have unrestricted credentials within the Seven Hills Anesthesia Practice and be licensed to practice medicine by the State of Ohio.Reporting Relationships:
  • The Program Director reports to the Designated Institutional Official.
  • The Program Coordinator(s) will co-report to the Administrative Director - GME and the Program Director.
